San Diego band driftwould is excited to announce the release of their second full-length album, the bridge, a surging collection of emotional experiences in a chaotic world. Songwriters Guy LaBorde and Luke Nuyen pose a variety of scenarios that explore relationships, self-actualization, and commercialized society, at times as an immortal being watching the heat death of the universe, and others as a worn-down 9-5 corporate employee. Guy, as vocalist, keeps his core sense of self by frequently referencing the sensory details and memories from the Eastern Sierra mountains where he grew up. Where driftwould’s previous self-titled album floats in a sea of abstract scenes and nostalgic emotions, the bridge retains that essence and grows more honest and grounded, unabashedly taking on interpersonal connection. 

Throughout the bridge, driftwould delves into heavier breakdowns, raw deliveries, and boundary pushing wall-of-sound sections. The band broadens its influences, drawing from 90’s emo, shoegaze, and post-rock. The album’s introverted opener “sucker punch” kicks off with a mathy, tapped guitar riff. Lead single “amicable” mixes angular jazzy chords with an anthemic emo chorus, and “sagebrush lullaby” gets up close and personal as a shoegazed folk tune. Driftwould members recorded, mixed, and mastered the full project in-house from the ground up. Luke, primary mixing engineer, glues together a cohesive stack of instrumentation that harnesses the band’s grittiness while keeping a crucial clarity. 

To celebrate the release of the bridge, on April 10th, driftwould will team up with their favorite local bands for an all-ages album release show at The Ché Cafe in La Jolla, CA!
